When it comes to preventing and reversing chronic illness there are numerous benefits to be gained from doing a detoxification and cleansing program. According to the ancient healing wisdom of Ayurvedic medicine it is recommended to do a seasonal cleanse at least twice a year.
Yet, there are simple "cleansing" steps you can take in your daily routine that promote health and vitality, and cleanse the body of toxins. Simple detox teas are made from everyday spices, herbs, and foods that are tasty and easy to make.
In my private practice, I recommend teas to my clients based on their individual constitution and body type. Certain constitutions, ( called a "dosha" in Ayurveda ), are prone to different health challenges. So, for a "summer" or Pitta constitution that tends toward inflammation, ulcers, gastritis, and reflux I recommend cooling herbs like fennel and coriander. For the "winter", or vata type that suffers from slow digestion and constipation, they benefit from a home-made "chai" recipe with herbs and spices like ginger and cardamom to increase optimal digestion.
Once you are aware of your constitution it's easy to create warm, (or iced), soothing teas that cleanse and heal your colon and digestion. If your digestion is slow toxins will accumulate more easily and quickly, but teas made with spices and herbs to suit your constitution will "keep things moving" and ultimately detoxify the colon. For those that tend to have a "hot" constitution, the inflammation in the digestive tract that results can cause malabsorption, which leads to accumulated toxins moving into other areas of the body.
When this body type sips teas made with cooling and healing herbs the inflammation decreases and the toxins can be flushed out easily. No need to wait for a full total body cleanse to enjoy the benefits of colon cleansing teas. You can get a great recipe that is suited to your constitution and drink it daily until you have reduced any unpleasant symptoms....this wound be the first sign that the tea is working and do its job to detox the colon.
Simple teas recipes are made by adding the herbs and spices to boiling water and then letting them steep for the recommended amount of time, usually 10-15 minutes for a basic tea and sometimes longer for a more concentrated effect.
Often people see results in as little as 24 to 48 hours.
